Denkmann Elementary is furthering their school mission statement of using the 7 Habits to Learn, Lead and Succeed by implementing a new Thursday afternoon program called LEAD.
The LEAD program – Learn, Enrich And Discover – is aimed at developing creativity, promoting critical thinking, enhancing higher order thinking skills, preparing for college and career readiness and engaging students in hands-on-learning experiences.
Courses such as Engineering (provided by the Putnam Museum), Circuitry (provided by the Putnam Museum), Cooking (provided by HyVee Rock Island), and Art (provided by the FIGGE) are a few of the possibilities.
All 6th graders go on a college tour and visit Western Illinois University – Quad Cities, Black Hawk College, Augustana College and Scott Community College. Students are also exposed to career paths in the construction and building trades.
LEAD Time will take place four Thursdays per quarter (approx. every other Thursday) and begin at 12:30 p.m.
